Over the course of making several games, I’ve determined that it is necessary to distinguish between public and private tutorials. Public tutorial cards are for everyone to see (ie. “Hi All, Welcome to the game…”). Private tutorial cards are for an individual player to help them in the course of their turn. (Ie. “Hit Done Rolling to move on…”).
Here is where this gets even more interesting. This came out of several conversations with Michael, Danny and John. Individual players can indicate that they have different levels of experience playing the game.Once the game knows that, these players can all be given different types of tutorials in their private space. This private space may be their own area of the screen, or the private tutorial may appear on their own mobile device.
It’s a pretty incredible feature if we can get it working correctly.
